SHORT STORY (6,000 words, 22 pages). Rachel's Eyes features characters from the author's western historical romance novel, Eyes of Silver, Eyes of Gold. Rachel Miles Ross has shunned her former best friend, Anne Wells Bennett, since the day of Anne's marriage to half-breed Cord Bennett. Yet when Rachel's life crumbles around her, she turns to Anne for help. Anne can give sympathy, but Cord is the one whose help Rachel really needs. Will he help a woman he considers an unworthy friend and first-class snob?
Rachel Eyes a Short Story Eyes of Silver Revisited Book 1 edition by Ellen O'Connell Literature Fiction eBooks
I loved Eyes of Silver, Eyes of Gold and was happy to see a related story. Yey!I see this story as an epilogue instead of another character's story. True, the title & the premise is about Rachel, but the story actually follows Cord's actions, I would say, 90% of the story.
Didn't take me too long to read, 30 mins tops. In fact, I don't know if I should feel jipped (?) since I've read some wonderful full-length romance stories for .99, and that's why I've marked it 4 instead of 5 stars. However, I could not resist the lure of finding out how Cord & Anne are doing & how their child turned out so I'm almost a buck poorer but a bit satisfied.
As ever, good writing. I just wished it was a bit longer for the price. At the end of the story, the writer says she has imagined how the characters would fare a couple years down the road & to give her feedback. I'll be sending her an email on her website for more stories on Cord & Anne and ask to make them longer.

Rachel Eyes a Short Story Eyes of Silver Revisited Book 1 edition by Ellen O'Connell Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Rachel's Eyes is just as great as Eyes of Silver, Eyes of Gold but RE was just too short! I loved getting to "visit" Anne and Cord again and to find out about their baby.
Ms. O'Connell I, for one, would love to have a short story with Anne, Cord and the secondary characters every month! Keep up the great work. Can't wait for your next historical romance.
I really liked to read this short little follow up to "Eyes of Silver, Eyes of Gold". I loved getting more of Anne & Cord. I also loved that the story between Anne & Rachel was resolved in this short story. I still love Cord!! He's so awesome!!
This short story is based off the characters of the authors book Eyes of Silver Eyes of Gold. It answers the question that plagued me of was Ann and Cords baby a girl or a boy! You get to meet their child in this short story. Worth read to catch up on Ann and Cord Bennett.
I loved the short story. We were treated to a little more Cord and Anne. What I especially liked was Frank and Levi's involvement. I grew to appreciate Frank's personality and now I am smitten with Levi. I want his story! I am one of those readers that when I fall in love with a story and it's characters, I want to know how they are doing from time to time. Rachel's Eyes gave me just that. All I know is that I want more!!
I always felt slightly cheated by the ending of "Eyes of Silver, Eyes of Gold". Did Anne and Cord have a boy or a girl? This short story about a secondary character from that book actually tied up some loose ends. It was a good read, just too short. Rachel needs help and goes to Anne and Cord to get it. Her perfect life has really been very hard on her, and on her children. If you read "Eyes", you know just what Cord is capable of. It was great to see Cord working in harmony with Frank for a change!
This short story provided another visit into Cord and Annie's life. I appreciated meeting their child. I admit I felt cheated when Eyes Of Silver/Gold concluded before the birth of the baby. Also good to see the town take another small step toward appreciating Cord for the hero that he is. Ann was every bit as strong and fiesty as ever.
Gaining insight into Rachel's life allowed O'Connell to once again point out the foolishness of surface appearances and sterotypes when judging a person. She teaches this lesson without preaching it.
I'd love to learn what happens to Rachel after her exchange with Cord and Ann in the church yard.
I don't think I need to beat around the bush about why we are reading this one--to see how Cord and Anne are doing. Am I right? I personally did not care about Rachel, but was quick to pick this up to see how Cord and Anne were doing.
And on that issue, we see more of Cord than we do of Anne since this is told from Cord's point of view. It was really short, much too short for those of us who want more of Anne and Cord, but enough to let us know that they are doing well. Hope to see more like this so that we can continue to follow up on Anne's and Cord's life together.
